This is a controversial question; one that has been debated heavily year after year, however, much mis-information persists especially among spiritually minded people. I offer my personal experience to anyone seeking more clarity and direction…
I dabbled with a vegetarian diet on and off in my teens and twenties, however, it wasn’t until I moved deeper into my spiritual path that I made a drastic change in nutrition. I maintained a strict gluten-free, vegan diet for over two years: gluten-free because my body was telling me that I was sensitive to gluten through various manifestations such as inflammation, bloating, skin rashes and so on whenever I consumed gluten; and vegan because whenever I ate meat it would just sit in my stomach, take very long to digest and make me feel nauseous.
Soon, just the smell of meat alone would trigger my gag reflex. I thought for sure the right choice was removing all animal products from my diet, and I had numerous books and spiritual leaders confirming this decision. However, while the message about gluten came in loud and clear and was “spot on”, I soon learned that I was not understanding the message about the protein in my diet quite clear enough.
According to many spiritual circles, killing of any sentient creatures is wrong and consuming their flesh lowers your energetic frequency because 1) the consciousness of animals is lower than humans, and 2) you consume their fearful vibrations during slaughter. They maintain that if you want to raise your frequency and move out of density consciousness, you must abstain from lower vibratory food and the karmic consequences of taking a life for nourishment. While it makes logical sense to refrain from consuming meat and animal products for someone seeking to rise above the density of mass consciousness and further their spiritual evolution, it has serious negative effects on the physical body (many I have personally experienced and are detailed in the article Vegetarian & Vegan Diets. Even to this day, I am still working to unwind its effects on my biochemistry).
Most importantly, nearly all people, even the most highly advanced spiritual seekers and healers, still live in this world and are exposed to the density and mundane activities of everyday life. The vegan diet may be appropriate for the monastic who lives in sacred space 24-7 and can afford to have their chakras open at all times. However, for those of us who have not renounced normal life and escaped to a mountain retreat- who go to work, the grocery store, raise children, visit family and friends- it is not safe to walk around with your chakras wide open to whatever energies and entities are in your surrounding environment.
In fact, it is not safe even for those who have committed to a path of high spiritual service, anchoring light for humanity and healing mass consciousness. I am regularly called to do work for humanity that requires me to remain within sacred space for months at a time. Even during these periods of isolation, I am required to eat high quality animal protein in order to safely and effectively work in and for mass consciousness.
Divine Validation
Below is an excerpt from an Archangel Metatron reading, mediated by my mentor and exceptional full trance channel Laurie Gudnason. Though usually kept very private, I share it here because I believe it will be supportive to others as it was for me many years ago:
“The teaching of the vegan lifestyle is a Hindu teaching from the Eastern Hemisphere. It was only meant for those who are monastics; who lived in the monasteries in protected, sacred space and who could afford to have their chakras open at all times. This teaching of vegetarianism was never focused on in the Western World, for that tradition of the monastic is not a part of the western mindset or body or genetic structure. The path of shamanism of the Western World has always included consuming flesh for sufficient protein in a moderate way, but also with the rituals of thanksgiving given for the life force that is transferred thru the meat. This allows one to live in the world; to be spiritual, but also to be a parent and to do all the things that are necessary in daily life, which a monastic is forbidden to experience.
Either is acceptable. Truthfully, one is not more spiritual than the other as long as the life form that is being consumed is honored intentionally with the meal in terms of prayer and thanksgiving.”
Don’t we harm the earth by eating meat?
“There is more harm done to the earth by ripping open the body in planting, but she gives gratefully and lovingly to her children. The life forms that are the meat that is consumed also give away lovingly and willingly to humankind, and the essence of their energy lives on in the human process with the human consciousness added to it. All in all, in truth it assists their evolution.”
This last point is very important. At that time, I believed that I was saving the earth by choosing vegetables over meat. However, over the years I have had my eyes opened to the harm and depletion humanity has also caused to the soil and earth by careless and loveless farming practices focused on mass production. I hadn’t considered that something as natural as growing plants could in fact be just as harmful as the mass production of beef, chicken, fish, etc.
Now that I have added animal protein back into my diet (as a slow oxidizer, it consists mainly of 70% cooked vegetables, only about 15% animal protein/fat, the rest complex carbohydrates), I not only ensure that the animals are organically and lovingly raised, but that I honor them with deep respect and thanksgiving for supporting the nutritional needs of my body. I also acknowledge how I support them in turn by raising their consciousness to a higher level through union of their Divine Spark with mine.
Next Steps…
If you are still in a body, you still have spiritual lessons to learn. You must care for the physical vessel that houses your spirit for the remainder of its experience, nourishing it with the nutrients it needs. Every spiritual tradition speaks of respect for the body in one way or another, as it is a temple for the Divine.
One must also ensure that all bodies evolve simultaneously. Those that seek to maintain the “spiritual high” ignoring the physical body, one day have to deal with the imbalances they’ve created. Unfortunately, it is all too common to find spiritual seekers whose evolution of the emotional, mental and spiritual bodies far exceeds that of the physical. Many lightworkers suffer from chronic conditions due to this unbalanced evolution, but also because their spiritual practice causes intense detoxification, which their eliminatory organs are unable to keep up with.
It is critical for all lightworkers to heal and strengthen the physical body. One will surely evolve more quickly and to greater heights if their foundation is strong and vitality is high. Also worth noting: Archangels, Angels, Masters of Light and entities of high vibratory frequency will not connect to or enter the central core unless the physical body is healthy enough to maintain their frequency. And as most know, the surest way to evolve is to connect regularly with these Divine beings for healing and teachings. The highest advice to anyone seeking to deepen their spiritual practice is to bring the body chemistry into balance, healing the physical body in conjunction with meditation and Divine communion.
